Public Utility Board (PUB), a statutory board under the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, is the national water agency that manages Singapore’s water supply, water catchment, and used-water in an integrated way.

Mun Hean Singapore, is proud to be a Power Quality Solutions provider to PUB and has completed the Lower Seletar Waterworks PQ project.

The Lower Seletar Waterworks treats water from the Seletar Reservoir and supplies up to 60 million gallons of clean water to the nation’s network daily. The equipment used by the plant, such as rectifier transformers generate a high level of harmonics and exert a poor power factor in the electrical network. Poor power quality affects efficiency in the treatment process, exerts harmonic stress on equipment and increases incidents of power disruptions.

2 sets of 250amp MH-Sinexcel Active Harmonic Filters (AHF) were supplied and commissioned by Mun Hean to improve the PQ of the electrical network. Results from the testing and commissioning showed a significant improvement in the waterworks’ power network – power factor on average improved to 0.95 from 0.75, and harmonic stress in the system was significantly removed on average to < 5% from 39%.

PQ improvement results from the installation was a success. Mun Hean is working with PUB on the next phase of PQ management. By installing DaxView mini PQ monitoring solutions in all PUB water treatment plants, it will expand PUB’s monitoring capabilities to include remote monitoring, alert management and reporting at a national level.
