Harmonics Solutions at PT Astra Daihatsu & PT Komatsu Undercarriage – Jakarta
The impact of harmonics pollution is an increasing problem given the growth in usage of sophisticated power electronics and proliferation of non-linear loads in power systems. Such non-linear loads point toward the use of equipment such as rectifiers, induction furnace, welding machines; variable speed drives for asynchronous and DC motors and extensive office equipment from lighting systems to SMPS. Harmonics distortion is known to cause issues such as tripping, equipment malfunction and failure.
Automotive manufacturer, PT Astra Daihatsu and manufacturer of components for mining and construction equipment, PT Komatsu Undercarriage are two notable factories in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Mun Hean Indonesia team, Munhean Puma Perkasa (MHPP) were invited by the factories to provide solutions for high levels of harmonics distortions at both factories.
The project involved a highly innovative design and installation of Sinexcel Active Harmonics Filters (AHF) at the two factories. The state-of-the-art modular AHF solution provided dynamic compensation of excessive harmonics in the factories’ electrical system. Both systems were tested and commissioned with excellent results, and harmonics distortions were significantly reduced. The project marks a breakthrough for the MHPP team with further stages of installation at the factories in the pipeline.
